Stephen Ministries There are times when each of us needs the care of another person, a Christian friend, a Stephen Minister! Our Stephen Ministers work together with our pastor to reach more people with Christian care than the pastor can reach by himself. Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry. Those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what goes on in the caring relationship will remain private. Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of initial training in important caring ministry skills and concepts that equip lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and challenges. If you'd like to speak with a Stephen Minister or you'd like to learn how to become a Stephen Minister, please contact the church office.

Over the years, prayer shawls have come to symbolize peace, love, and spiritual nourishment. The Prayer Shawl Ministry began in 1998 in a church in Little Rock, Arkansas and has become an ecumenical organization with countless numbers of shawls being dedicated and presented to recipients around the globe. The making and presenting of a prayer shawl, like all other acts of generosity, enriches the giver as well as the recipient. At Oakton Church, our prayer shawls have been shared at times of joy, sadness, and need to remind the recipient they are wrapped in love by the arms of their church family. If you would like to contribute to the Prayer Shawl Ministry financially or by donating your time and talents, please contact the church office. If you would like to receive or recommend someone to receiver a shawl, please complete and send the form below or contact the church office.

Shepherd Program The Shepherd Program serves OUMC by helping to create a warm and welcoming environment for members and visitors. Known as the "friendly church on the corner", each member family is assigned to a flock with approximately 20 other families. A pair of shepherds is then assigned to each flock with the purpose of getting to know and looking out for its members, especially in times of need. From time to time, shepherds also help support the speedy dissemination of important congregational information. Once a year, each flock takes a turn in hosting Fellowship Sunday for the entire congregation--an opportunity following the 10:55am service to engage in fellowship while sharing a light snack. Finally, shepherds also play an important role in recognizing and welcoming visitors to our worship services. If you'd like to become a shepherd or you're not sure who your shepherd is, please contact the church office.

Homebound Communion Communion is our opportunity to gather as the family of Christ. Taking communion to our shut-ins is an important ministry at Oakton Church as it allows them to stay connected with our church family and to participate in the holy mystery of God’s grace. On those Sundays when the congregation observes the Lord’s Supper, members of our homebound communion team take to the roads to share communion with our homebound members. If you, a friend or a family member are homebound and would like to participate in this extension of our worship service, please call the church office or e-mail us by completing the information below.

Mailbox Ministries Each week, the congregation remembers a member who can not be with us by sending a card from our Mailbox Ministry. If you know someone you think we need to remember, please contact the church office.
