Reverend Don Hawks

Biography

Don Hawks is ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church. Previous appointments in the United Methodist Church include in the Alabama-West Florida Conference: Poplar Head, RedHill-Bethlehem; and in the Virginia Conference: Pleasant Grove-Ottobine, Keezletown, Scottsville, Bethany (Harrisonburg), and Bridgewater.

Don's background in systems thinking has influenced his mission and vision-driven leadership style. He studied under Ed Friedman (disciple of Murray Bowen) for 10 years and has been trained in the nationally recognized consultation programs Healthy Congregations and Bridgebuilder. Pastor Don has also been influenced by the book, The Purpose Driven Church, by Rick Warren, particularly the emphasis on the importance of congregational mission and vision. He sees himself as one who is continually learning and likes to experiment with new ways of doing ministry. Pastor Don believes that church experiences are mini-labs for people to live their lives in the everyday world. In summary, he is committed to giving the congregations he serves a vision for living out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission of Jesus.

Pastor Don has also worked in the mental health industry.  He is a licensed marriage and family therapist. In the past he served as an advisor to the Clinical Pastoral Education program at Eastern Mennonite University. He has also served on various Conference and District programs. On occasion, Don also serves as a congregational consultant to churches in transition and conflict. He has received training as a Transitional Interim Ministry Specialist in the United Methodist Church. Earlier, Don also worked as a radio announcer at a public radio station.

Don is married to Robin, a school psychologist and professional counselor. They have one son who is married and 2 granddaughters, aged 5 and 2 years.
