H. Donald Hawks, M.A., M.Div.
Appointed to Oakton UMC: July 1, 2008
Family: Married to Robin, 1 son Shaun who is married to Lori, 2 granddaughters, Addyson and Krisalyn, 1 grand-dog Millie, and 1 grand-cat Mouser
Favorite Book of the Bible: (I like them all but....) Gospel of John for the many speeches of Jesus to his followers
Favorite Style of Music: Contemporary Jazz among others
Favorite TV Shows: Worst Week, King of Queens, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Everybody Loves Raymond, Two and a Half Men (or any show that makes me laugh)
Movies I've Seen Lately: None lately--maybe I'll get to the theater after Christmas
Calling: I have sensed the call to ordained ministry since childhood, growing up in the Baptist Church; I first entered a career in psychology and counseling before entering the ministry in the United Methodist Church.
What I like best about my ministry: The ability to share positive, practical Biblically based sermons each Sunday to help people cope and mature in their daily spiritual lives; being present with others in times of need to offer prayer and the hope we have in Christ
Theological Viewpoint: I prefer not to use labels such as Conservative, Liberal or Moderate to describe my theological views. I think these labels tend to separate rather than unite Christians and all people. I like to see my theology as one that is in process --constantly developing with the Spirit of God's guidance.
