Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
November 24, 2009
Pastor Hawks of Oakton United Methodist Church gave the blessing of the offering during the 11th Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service sponsored by the Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna. A number of local clergy lead the service with prayers for peace and thanksgiving, while symbols of gratitude related to Thanksgiving were shared by lay persons. Choirs from participating congregations joined together to provide an evening of inspiring music. An offering of more than $2,300 was shared with Our Daily Bread and the Committee for Helping Others.

Annual Prayer Vigil -- Spring
Oakton Church's Prayer Vigil has its origins in the World Day of Prayer which dates back to the 19th century when Christian women of the United States and Canada initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of women's involvement in mission at home and in other parts of the world.
Explore new ways to meditate and pray. In past years, Oakton Church's version of World Day of Prayer encompasses quiet, reflective time in our specially decorated, candle lit sanctuary; a program of song and prayer; a Chartres Cathedral style labyrinth; meditation binders containing Scripture, color photos; and a Resource Center offering prayer stations with meditative books, music on CDs, and other meditative resources.
